- Be original in both mixing and track selection! No matter what subgenre you play.
- The best DJs are the ones who make you feel something.
- Mastering the fundamentals is crucial: the mix must sound flawless. Pay attention to key and phrasing for seamless transitions that enhance the musical flow.
- Try to achieve synergy in the combinations of your tunes. It’s not only about flowing from one track to the next but also about creating a new experience in the mix!
- A good mix has contrast or something that catches the attention of the listener. Dare to do something unexpected.
- Squeezing 120 tracks into 30 minutes is not always a sign of a good dj.
- Try to be deliberate in the pacing & flow of your mix. 30minutes without a single breakdown is difficult to listen to.
- Dig deep! There is so much great drum & bass history with timeless tunes. Just mixing the current top of the charts is not making you stand out.
